Report on State Level ToT

March 27th – 29th, 2008

State Level ToT on Community Based Monitoring of Health Services under NRHM in Jharkhand
Venue – Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, Ranchi, Jharkhand
The group participated in the workshop-
State Mentoring Group members (7 participants)
District Mentoring Group members (9 participants from each of the three Districts)
Three participants from each of the Block level NGOs from the three Districts
The criteria for the participants from Block level NGOs is
1 NGO head
1 Program In-charge / Coordinator
1 Trainer/ technical person
Proceedings
Day 1- Self Introduction of the participants was done followed by a welcome note by Dr. Priscella Minz with clarification of the objectives of the workshop to all the participants.
Mr.Subir, NGO coordinator, RCH started the first session of the workshop with presentation on NRHM. This session acted as an eye opener for all the participants as he very lucidly explained the situation of Jharkhand in comparison to the better performing states and the nation as a whole. Thus, he paved the way to understand the importance of the workshop.
The following session was taken by Dr.Suranjeen and Mr.Balram. This session was dedicated to the understanding of Alma Atta Declaration and other findings in relation to better working of the health system viz. Bohr committee. The session played an important role to realize the fact that ultimately, Health is not an individual concern but rather it is more related to the well being of the society as a whole.
The following session was taken by Mr.Gurjeet and Mr.Balram regarding the importance and role of Village Health Committee (VHC) in community monitoring of health services under NRHM according to the guideline. The various steps involved in the entire process has been clearly deciphered and explained.
Day 2- The second day of the workshop was dedicated to develop a clear understanding of the various formats involved in the process of monitoring and to make necessary rectifications wherever necessary based on specific situations prevailing in the state of Jharkhand.
All the participants were explained about the various stake holders with whom the interview sessions shall be conducted.
Day 3- All the 15 villages of 9 block NGOs got finalized on the date. Thus comprising a list of 135 villages in totality in which entire process of Community monitoring will be accomplished.
Time line of the following activities has been finalized:-
DMG meetings in the 3 Districts.
District workshop to be conducted in the 3 districts.
Training and orientation of the 3 street play groups from the 3 districts followed by their performance at village level.
