District Level Workshop, Palamu

on Community Based Monitoring Process

A Districst level workshop on community based Monitoring Process under NRHM was organised jointly by IDF, CNI, JCK and GVS in palamu on 4th may 2008 at Town Hall involving different stake holders (Doctors, ANM, Sahias Anganwadi Sevikas, media, CSO/ CBO and others.

The purpose behind organising such workshop were the following

  • To launch the programme “Community Based Monitoring Process under NRHM” officially in Palamu
  • To sensitise different Stake holders, Service Providers and receipients (district administration, Media, CSOs , MOIC, ANM, Sahia and the Village Health Committee and public) on Community Based Monitoring Process under NRHM
  • To disseminate different facets of NRHM to the same stake holders

The participants of the workshop were ANM, Sahias, Anganwadi Sevikas, Presidents and secretary of the village health committees from the three Blocks i.e. Patan, Chainpur and lesliganj.

The chief guest, Mr. NP. Singh, D.C. Palamu inaugrated the workshop by lightening the lamp. Mr. Ajit Minj, anchored the whole programme. After the inaugration the representatives of the VHC from Chainpur, Patan and Lesliganj presented the booke of flower to the chief guests and other dignitaries. Dr. Kamender singh, CS cum CMO, Palamu in his welcome note and introduction to the session Said the health Department is trying its level best for the delivery of good quality health care services to people. In his address he also his serious concern over the lacuuna and gaps in the selection of sahias and Village Health committee.. He said that Village health committees will play vital role in in the programme implementaion and thereby cheking malnutrition and aliments in the villages but that need to be properly guided and strengthend.

Mr. N.P.singh, Deputy Commissioner Palamu as chief guest in his address to the audience said that health service is for all . and every citizen should take responsibility show commitment towards society. so that the health care services reach to the last person in the society. There is a need to work with full commitment. He said that the community based monitoring process is going on in the 8 states, in Jharkhand palamu, Hazaribag and West Singhbhum.The complete knowlegde of the services and the different programme is a must.incomplete knowledge would adversly affect the effectivity of the community based Monitoring Process. He requested the different speakers to provide the full knowleged of the different helath programme that are going on in the palamu. He further added that people should also understand their duties along with their rights. To make the mission a success one the people who are directly linked with the programme should play active role.

Speaking about the purpose of the workshop Mr. Xavier District coordinator, IDF said that Delivery of quality health care service is one of the major concens of the state today and to ensure this many strategies have been made. The community Based Monitoring process under NRHM is one amongst them which are being implemented in the 8 states Jharkhand is one of those eight states. He further said that the term monitoring should not be taken literally . it has wider connotation – planning- imlemnting- monitoring- evaluating –solving the problems identified that is full participation and cooperation of commmunity not only for effective delivery of health services but for other services too. Dr. MP. Singh, ACMO, Palamau and Dr. Awdhesw Kumar, gave the detailed description of the different kinds of heath services under diifferent health programme such as vassactomy tuboctomy JSY and others ….with a view to inform the participats so that they can have better acess to the health care servies provided by the government.

On behalf of CINI Ms Puja and Mr. Bhaskar gave a detailed presentation concerning NRHM and the changing approach in the planning process.. Community for whom the programmes are designed are not involved in the planning process as a result there is lack of community onweship over the programme leading to apathy and non cooperation in the implemenation of the programme. Now the process are chaning community wil be involved in not only health programme but others programmes . Ms. Puja said that the main objective of the NRHM is to reduce infant and maternal Mortalilty. After the lunch break the Kala jatha team presented the nukkad natak – Mara Gaya Gulfam to sensitise the community on the issue of health. Lastly there was a short meeting Block wise to plan the movement of the kala Jatha Team in the different villages. The workshop ended with the vote of thanks.
